The conceptualization of Splize originated from our experiences with people going online to do business, look for work, socialize, etc. We were wondering why people went to one Web site to post their resumes, another Web site to buy a car, and yet another to advertise their products—and the list goes on. These thoughts led to the idea of designing a platform combining marketplace features with those of social networking sites, job-seeking sites, and so on. We wanted to create a value-creation platform where people hook up with one another and network based on a real reasons rather than just the desire to build as big a group of followers or friends as possible. Further, we wanted a platform that is fun and easy to use and sometimes may even give the user a result that he/she wasn’t expecting, but one that could very well help broaden his/her horizon.
Splize was developed in 2009–2010 and launched its alpha version in March 2011.
